KNOW Sweat Cincinnati Day 2 (continued)
There once was a city called Cinci,
and also a man named Quincy,
and they never met.
-A limerick by Caleb Smith
Today we “started” the “physical” portion of our missions trip. (Figuratively of course, everything it took to get here was physical.)
After the morning meal, we ventured to St. Michael’s church to continue the work started by last week’s group.
We spent the first half of the morning scraping glorious, asbestos-filled, two-hundred year old tile.
The church we were working in was one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen, even though it was older than something that is 190 years old.
In what could have been a vexing day of manual labor rife with complaining and whining, our group was able to take in the beauty of the church. Photography, flipcam runs and comments such as “Look at the windows,” and “This is so pretty!” were abundant.
On a less attractive note, I came into money today through less than dignified means, and I will share with you how.
Our esteemed high school minister/SOMA pastor Jon Hauser coerced me into drinking dumpster water for a grand total of… $15!!! (You can watch those videos here and here)
Yes, I will be available for scolding when I return.
Now for a moral from today’s activities: Today we learned about the Holy Spirit wanting to dwell in us, and we likened the concept to the difference between a houseguest and a new house resident. It stuck to me that God isn’t a “sometimes” being, he is an “always” being, and there’s nothing we can do to change that.
Peace, Love and Pete Rose.
